Surrey Hills melbourne Book Book Camberwell High School 1941-1991 ...The author Robert D Ewins (1933-2013) taught at the school for eight years (1958-1965). He drew upon the school's archival collection and was able to source a copy of every edition of the school magazine (Prospice). Located on Prospect Hill Road in Canterbury, Camberwell High School opened in 1941 with an enrolment of 350 girls and boys and in 2020 has an enrolment of 1200 students. Its motto is 'Disco Consulere Aliis' (Learning to be considerate of others). Uniform is green and red. The school has featured in a number of films and television productions including 'Knowing', a 2009 movie; former principal Elida Brereton appeared in the Australian television comedy series 'Summer Heights High' playing the principal Mrs Murray; the Australian television series 'The Worst Year Of My Life - Again!' was filmed there in 2013; as was the Australian film 'Emo the Musical' in early 2016. Some of snippets of the Australian TV series 'The Sullivans' were filmed in the grounds. Some of the school's notable ex-students are Robert Manne, lecturer of politics; Dannii Minogue, singer, actress and TV personality; Kylie Minogue, pop singer, and actress and Brian Naylor, former Channel 9 newsreader.A soft cover book of 160 pages with black and white photos, newspaper clippings and other illustrations. It includes lists of principals. presidents of school council, house captains, SRC presidents, parents & friends association presidents, women's auxiliary presidents, male and female staff members, and all students who attended the school between 1941 and 1991. This book was used as a text book at Camberwell Grammar School by Jack Roper whose family lived and farmed at Mt Yorke Station, Tawonga. At the time there wasn't a local High School, the closest one being in Albury. Historical: Students studied History. Country students boarded in Melbourne for their education. Provenance: Jack Roper had a private school education. His family still live and farm in the Kiewa Valley. From Barkly Street, Ballarat. Winners: 1956 United, Junior Star of LaTrobe; 1957 Brookes, Burwood Rd; 1958 Brookes, Burwood Rd; 1959 Rosanna; 1960 South Camberwell; 1961 South Camberwell; 1963 Sunshine. The Methodist Order of Knights was the official youth organisation of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It originated in Hurstville, NSW, on the 4th October 1914 by the then Mr and later Rev Alex Bray. Alex Bray was a Sunday School teacher and spoke to his class of the Knights of the Round Table. In 1917 the Order of Knights was officially recognised by the Sunday School Dept of the NSW Methodist Conference. Courts spread thoroughout Australia. In 1927 the High Court of NSW called for designs for a badge and in 1929 the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia recognised the Order as an approved Organisation. In 1938 the Senior Section was organised into Degrees of Sincerity, Service and Sacrifice; the Junior Section into Pages' Degree with advancement to Esquire. In 1954 the Junior Section was reorganised into two groups: Pages 8 to 11 years and Esquires 12 to 15 years. The Knight's Motto: "Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong, Follow Christ the King, else wherefore born?" Courts of the Order: General Conference Department of the Christian Education - General Court - Provincial High Court - District Court - Local Court - Senior Court - Intermediate Court - Junior Court . Regalia: All members of the Intermediate and Senior Courts wore regalia consisting of a cloth shield superimposed by a cross of light and dark blue ribbons, and supported by a cloth collar. Esquire and Degree of Sincerity regalia: White collar and white shield. Degree of Service regalia: Green collar and shield. Degree of Sacrifice: Scarlet collar and shield. District Court regalia: Blue collar and gold shield. High Court regalia: Gold collar and purple sheild. General Court regalia: Purple collar and shield. Officers of the local courts wore their symbols as part of their regalia. Scroll shaped wooden award board Methodist Order of Knights High Court of Victoria and Tasmania. F.L. Hymettus Cottage & Garden

The third Michael Taffe to live at Hymettus cottage Ballarat was dux of his class at the local parish school, St Patrick's Drummond St in 1958 and 1959. These mass produced premium plates were a popular insertion for such award from their inception in Europe in the eighteenth century until the late twentieth century. The library collection at Hymettus includes examples from several Wesleyan Sabbath Schools, Ballarat's McBains' High School, Ballarat College, Fintona in Camberwell and this from the Christian Brothers school at Drummond St Ballarat.Printed Awarded to and infilled with Michael Taffe Dux Second Year 1959.
